Our History
Formerly known as K. Yamada Distributors, KYD Inc is a locally owned and operated “kama’aina” (island born) family business. Established in 1946 as a florist and florist supply, K. Yamada became a successful and well-known supplier to the industry. In 1958, our founder, Kazuo Yamada, saw a need to supply cellophane, plastic sheeting, plastic bags, and plastic film to the floral, agricultural, and industrial companies in Hawaii.
To avoid competing and conflicting with customers, friends, and partners, K. Yamada closed the florist business and branched off into manufacturing extruded films, bags, and sheeting for the florist market and agricultural/industrial industries.
Today, KYD Inc in Honolulu, HI, is a diversified company and handles clear poly, cellophane, compostables, polypropylene, BOPP, LLDPE, LDPE, HDPE, liners, custom bags (custom prints, side weld, gusseted, perforated bags), pallet covers, box liners, flip bags, mailer bags, bags for dry cleaning, tropical fish, laundry, newspapers, medical equipment, pet food, hardware, automotive and electronic parts, and FDA bags for gourmet foods, ice, sealable bags for cookies, baked goods, fruits, nuts, or produce. KYD also extrudes EPS for the food service trade as well as grocery stores for meat, fish, and poultry trays.
KYD Inc imports domestic and foreign resin to manufacture basic packaging lines such as bags, sheeting, containers, and other packaging items for the food service industry. KYD partners with wholesale distributors in various industries from industrial, construction, and mechanical to farmers and food processors. We use food packers for meat, produce, fish, seafood, poultry, and eggs for retail and industrial accounts.
